latex paint in several ocean colors (blue, green, teal)
brightly colored papers
paintbrushes

PVA glue

  1. Base-coat wall in desire color. To create the background color on the wall, put a little of several shades of blue and green on the wall in a random manner.
  2. Dip a paintbrush in water and blend the colors together (figure A).
  3. To make the fish, tear out the shapes of bodies from the art papers. Then tear out some extra pieces in contrasting colors for the accents (fins, stripes, spots, etc.).
  4. Glue the accents onto the fish (figure B).
  5. Glue the finished fish to the wall with decoupage glue.
  6. Add other desired items like starfish, shells, plants, bubbles, etc. to the faux aquarium.
  7. Once scene is in place, cover the items with decoupage glue.
  8. Add mirrors or beads for eyes and a scalloped chair rail to simulate the ocean floor (figure C).
