Materials:

interior oil-based paint (silver, dark gray and white)
3-inch wide paintbrush
paint roller and tray
clean, soft rags
black permanent marker (medium tip)
4-inch wide putty knife
painter's tape
silver upholstery tacks
yardstick
small hammer

Steps:

  1. Base-coat walls with silver paint. Let dry.
  2. Mask off 2' x 4' panels with painter's tape.
  3. Using a brush that is almost dry, swipe dark gray paint over the silver in each panel, using quick motions.
  4. Brush on a little more gray paint; wipe over it with a rag to soften the look. Remove tape. Let dry.
  5. Outline each panel with a black, permanent marker (use a yardstick for straight lines).
  6. To highlight the panels and give them visual depth, dip a putty knife into white paint and dab it just below the black marker lines at the top of each panel and along the right sides of the black lines between each panel.
  7. Use a small hammer to pound silver upholstery tacks around each panel.
