Decorative painter Leslie Linsley demonstrates how to bring a modern style into any room by giving the walls a brushed metal effect.

Materials:

base coat: olive hint
metal glaze: bronze
large wallpaper smoothing brush
nylon paintbrush
paint roller
painter's tape

Steps:
  1. Tape off woodwork and other areas where you do not want to apply this finish.
  2. Using a roller, apply a base coat of olive hint to the entire surface. For best results, remove the tape, and allow the paint to dry overnight.
  3. Reapply the tape.
  4. Apply the bronze glaze with a nylon paintbrush or roller. Work in 4' x 6' wide sections.
  5. Using a wallpaper smoothing brush, work through the wet glaze in a series of large overlapping arcs. By following the sweeping motion pattern, the base color will show through the glaze in certain areas.
  6. Remove the tape and allow the paint to dry overnight.
  7. After the first coat has dried, a second coat may be added to create a more metallic look.
