Decorative painter Gary Lord creates a high-end, metallic wallpaper look using paint.
Materials:
Aquabond Off White
squirrel mixer
1/2" electric drill
paint tray
Pallette Art bronze or pearl
3" or 4" nylon bristle brush
9" roller handle and 1/2" lambskin sleeve
rubber triangle comb
plastic wallpaper hanger's smoother/straightedge
rags
Steps:
- Apply two full even coats of Aquabond Off White base coat over your surface of choice.
- Stir Palette Art Bronze or Pearl using an electric drill with a squirrel attachment.
- Apply the Palette Art heavily (1/16-inch to 1/8-inch thick). You can apply this with the bristle brush or lambskin roller handle and sleeve. Work in an approximately 2' x 2' area and continue to work in and out of finished and unfinished areas until the wall is complete.
- Using your rubber triangle comb, make small half moon crescent shapes, overlapping each pattern as you go so that there are no brushed areas remaining untouched.
- Clean your comb after every other crescent shape so it does not get clogged up.
Method for Wallpaper Smoothing Tool Technique:
- Follow steps 1-3 above.
- Using the wallpaper smoothing tool, glide it across the surface, raising it off the surface 1/16 to 1/8-inches while also moving it up and down. This will create your fan pattern. Repeat the process over the entire wall.
