Silvere Boureau (figure A) grew up by the sea in Brittany, France, but it was the American southwest that captured his heart and his imagination. When he visited the Grand Canyon, the wild beauty of the landscape overwhelmed him. Here he has painted a smaller landscape--a cherry tree in bloom--onto a wooden screen (figure B).
