Painting Tips

Here are some tips for making household painting jobs a little easier:
  • If you need to stop for a bit in the middle of a paint job, don't take the time to clean the brush. Instead, wrap it while full of paint (but not dripping) in aluminum foil and place in the freezer. When ready to finish, unwrap, let thaw and continue.
  • To keep brushes straight, secure rubber bands around them as they dry. Choose the right size rubber band so it doesn't pull in too tightly. This is good for tools such as stencil brushes, which really need to be straight.
  • To create a clean paint line around cylindrical objects (such as a table leg), use rubber bands. Stretch them around the object as flat as possible, without kinks in the rubber. Paint up to the bands--the rubber will stop the paint from getting through . Let dry and then remove.
