Transformed Hollow Door

Give a plain hollow core door a whole new look with paint and flashing panels surrounded by molding.

tin snips or heavy-duty scissors
grease pencil

cardboard or foam core
ruler

miter box and saw
finish nails
latex paint
silver paint pen

Steps:

1. Unhinge the door and lay it flat. Paint the entire door and let dry.

2. Determine the panel placement and mark the areas off with a pencil and straightedge . Cut flashing to size using tin snips and gloves.

3. Use a grease pencil to draw desired design(s) on each panel and place one on cardboard or foam core. Use a nail set and hammer to tap lightly along the pattern lines (do not perforate the metal). Repeat on each panel.

4. Use a miter box to cut the molding to surround each panel like a frame. Paint each piece and let dry.

5. Put panels on the door and nail the molding in place after pre-drilling holes to hold the flashing.

6. Embellish the molding with a paint pen as desired.
