Staining a Patio

An old flagstone patio is brought back to life with a coat of stain.

Materials:

water supply
concrete stain (ours was Duck Back brand concrete stain in Flagstone Gray)
power washer
broom
Hudson sprayer
cardboard spray shield
spray shield holder with handle

1. Hook up a power washer to a water supply and spray the area to be stained making sure it is free of debris.
2. Sweep the area that was just sprayed clean ridding it of any extra water accumulation and residual dust and debris.
3. Fill the sprayer with stain and pump a few times.
4.Spray stain directly onto the surface. When you reach the edges (especially those next to a wall where you don’t want overspray), use the cardboard spray shield to mask exposed areas (figure A).
