Materials:
24" x 35" double-primed canvas

Steps:
- Cut canvas in desired shape and paint it with Linen. Let dry.
- Create a checked border by laying the straightedge on the canvas in the desired direction and draw a starting line. Use the width of the straightedge to draw the pattern over the edges of the surface (don't worry about being precise as the background will be painted black later).
- Paint the checkerboard pattern by filling in every other square with black. Let dry.
- Trace chosen vegetable designs and transfer each onto floorcloth using graphite paper. Outline traced design with extra fine point marker and add details/shadowing to it until satisfied.
- Pick up floating medium and desired colors to paint the vegetables. Once dry , add dark shading to the edge of each design (figure A). Let dry.
- Load brush with black and carefully surround the vegetables and fill-in the background. Repeat once dry if necessary.
- Apply two coats of polyurethane for protection.
