Steps :
Preparation
- Base-coat primed floorcloth with Damask Blue using a natural base coat application brush. Let dry.
- Create a colored glaze by mixing 50 percent neutral wall glaze plus 50 percent Gunmetal Gray. Randomly brush the glaze on in a crisscross manner. Use the chamois tool to blend the strokes. Let dry.
- Mark a five-inch border and tape it off to expose a center section. Mix equal amounts of neutral wall glaze and Silver Leaf glaze and brush on center area. Repeat chamois tool texture technique. Remove tape and let dry.
- Trace desired leaf pattern with graphite paper.
Winter Leaves
- Under-coat the leaves with Titanium White using a flat brush, the branches with a script liner brush and berries with a round brush. Let dry.
- Apply blending gel medium to one leaf at a time. Double-load a flat brush with Gunmetal Gray and Titanium White. Stroke over the blending gel with the gray on the outside edge starting at the base, and then up the left side. Wipe brush and add a few sweeps of Blue Pearl to the opposite edge and to the berries. Wipe brush as necessary to blend the leaf colors.
- Create veins on leaves and accent the branches and berries with thinned Gunmetal Gray using a script liner brush (figure A).
Finishing
- Use a pencil and raised ruler to mark a one-quarter inch band next the center section and place a single line one-quarter inch inside center section.
- Load a ruling pen with thinned Titanium White and paint a stripe inside center section. Clean tool and place two lines around the one-quarter inch band using the ruling pen and thinned Gunmetal Gray. Fill the area in-between these two lines using a liner brush and more thinned gray.
- Let dry and apply second coat with liner brush.
- Protect floorcloth with varnish.
