Steps:
- Prime and seal floorcloth. Let dry. Base-coat with copper metallic acrylic.
- Once dry, load damp sea sponge with real copper-based painting product and dab over entire surface randomly, building layers as you go.Let dry.
- Spritz patina solution over surface of dried copper paint to create oxidation process (light green will begin to form after about 20 minutes). Let dry.
- Transfer poppy pattern onto floorcloth and base coat with Napthol Crimson. Paint the center Pure Black and the leaves Hauser Green Dark.
- Load half of large flat brush with floating medium and the other half with a True Burgundy/Burnt Umber mixture and walk the color between the sections dividing the petals one-by-one. Place dark side at the base of each petal where it attaches to the center of each flower and let dry.
- Create more dimension with ripples through a method called "pat blending" by walking the dark part of a brush toward the flower center forming dark creases similar to how clothing forms creases.
- Add dimension to leaves using a medium flat brush loaded with floating medium and green paint on one side and black on the half. Shade the base of leaf and walk the dark color along it to create a ragged edge.
- Develop highlights on the petals by adding strokes of Red Light with a filbert brush. Two or three applications are required to see results.
- Highlight the leaves with a small flat brush loaded on one side with floating medium and a lighter shade of green on the other. Add this to the opposite side of the dark shading along the edge of the vein.
- Load a small brush with floating medium and a combination of black/Ice Blue to form gray and make individual rounded sections in the center. Dab black around the center for pollen dots.
