Materials:
carpet remnant with finished edges (lighter colors work best)
plastic and metal cookie cutters, jar rings
thick artist's acrylic paint
stencil brushes
fork
Steps:
- Test pattern by pressing cookie cutters deep into carpet, and then pull them out. Brush away design if dissatisfied.
- Once the design is in place, press cookie cutter deep into the fibers over area to be painted. This will not be removed until it's painted. Use a fork to fluff and pull carpet fibers around the cookie cutter edges for a clean design.
- Dilute one part paint to three parts water. Diluting thick paint avoids having to heat set once it's dry. Load stencil brush with paint and work from center of design toward the sides of the cookie cutter. Work the paint deeply into carpet fibers ensuring all sides are completely covered using different brush sizes. Make a two -toned design by working additional color right over the base starting at the edges and moving toward the center of the design. Blend the colors as you go.
- Remove cookie cutter and fluff/comb fibers with fork.
