Materials:

stain glass pattern
charcoal pencil
square or pointed paintbrush
liner brush
artist acrylic paints: white, black, yellow, green, blue, magenta ( colors vary depending on project, but try to choose bright hues)
artists clear acrylic medium

Steps:

  1. Pick a suitable pattern and have it enlarged at a copy center.
  2. Shade the back side of the copy with the charcoal pencil.
  3. Place the copy, shaded side down, on the object to be painted.
  4. Trace the black outlining with a pencil.
  5. Paint the spaces between the traced lines with white acrylic paint and allow to dry.
  6. To create a more transparent look with the paints, make a mixture of clear acrylic medium and acrylic paint. Mix these in a 1:1 ratio.
  7. Using a square or pointed brush, paint inside the traced images. While still wet , apply a second coat of another color to create a vibrant look. To achieve the look of Victorian or Tiffany glass, allow the brush strokes to show through.
  8. Use a liner brush to apply the black outlining.
