Lydia Gach has decided her good old-fashioned charcoal grill just isn't good enough! She plans to construct a built-in gas barbecue by building a foundation, constructing a frame that will support a drop in grill, and laying over 60 bricks by hand. With the help of her fiance David, Lydia believes she can complete the project in three days.

It is day one and Lydia can't wait to get started. She and David remove the portion of the exterior siding where the grill will be placed. They cut a piece of concrete backer board, drill holes to accommodate the gas and drain pipes, and fit it into place on the side of the house. The couple then figures out the measurements they will need to build the foundation of the barbecue. They disagree on their initial cuts and measurements, but soon the wood frame is assembled. Lydia and David then begin to lay brick.

It is now day two. A plumber has connected the gas line, and with the base of the foundation finished, the bulk of the remaining work will be laying the bricks that make up the exterior of the barbecue. David is anxious to start laying the bricks; but after giving the wood frame the once over, Lydia decides it isn't sturdy enough . She decides to reinforce the frame before moving on. Stabilizing the frame is a big achievement, but it puts them behind schedule. It is now too late in the day to begin their brickwork.

On the third day, Lydia and David finally begin to see a light at the end of their tunnel of bricks. They continue laying bricks until the brick frame is complete. They put the grill in place and it fits perfectly.

Two weeks later the gas line has been attached and the grill is in working order. Lydia and David are both savoring the fruits (and grilled vegetables!) of their labor. Finally they can agree: it was all worth it!
