Help Around the House host Henry Harrison shows a guest how to secure a ceiling-mounted shower curtain bracket (
figure A). On his elbow grease scale of one to four, Harrison gives this project a one.
Tools:
miniature screwdriver set
Phillip's-head screwdriver
hacksaw blade
safety glasses
replacement shower bracket
Steps:
1. In this instance, the problem was a damaged set screw in the coupler that clamps onto the shower curtain surround at the seam. Begin by removing the old coupler. Pull the tube apart and slide the old bracket off.
2. Position the new bracket onto one end of the rack (figure B).
3. Use a miniature screwdriver to partially tighten the set screw in the new bracket (figure C).
4. Next disconnect the support rod from the ceiling. Always wear safety glasses when working above your head.
5. If you have trouble removing one or more of the screws, you can slide a hacksaw blade under the mounting plate and cut through the stubborn screw (figure D).
6. Put the new mounting plate in place. Start the screws by hand then tighten with a Phillip's-head screwdriver.
7. Insert a new down rod (figure E).
8. Slide the other end of the down rod into the new coupler and tighten (figure F). Fully tighten the set screw and you're ready to hang the shower curtain.
