Layer three colors of paint to achieve an aged patina.
Kitty Bartholomew refinishes an old cabinet door and turns it into a unique frame for a new mirror. She layers on different colors of latex paint, using pink, white , and gray. Any combination of colors can be used.

Steps:

  1. First, paint the door bright pink.
  2. After the pink layer dries, lightly rub on a coat of white paint.
  3. Finish with a dark gray paint, completely covering the other two layers.
  4. Sand areas on the door down to the bottom layer, letting all three layers show .
  5. Stencil on a pattern in the corner, if desired. Bartholomew used neoprene blocks shaped in a grape-leaf design.
  6. Insert a mirror cut to size.
