Figure A
Materials:

X.I.M. solvent-based white primer
inexpensive paintbrushes
Benjamin Moore AquaGlo semi-gloss black acrylic paint
Golden Artist Colors (Metallic Bronze Glaze , Metallic Copper Glaze, Metallic Gold Glaze)
thick kitchen sponge
plastic plates or trays
220-grit sandpaper

Steps:

1. Lightly scuff the surface with sandpaper and remove dust. Prime the piece/doors and let dry for three to four days to cure.

2. Apply a base coat of black and let it dry two to three hours. Apply another coat and let it dry overnight.

3. Cut the sponge into a four-inch square with an angled edge for corners/edges (figure A). Use it damp to apply a light layer of Bronze glaze in an overlapping square pattern, allowing a fair amount of the background to show through (hold the sponge in one direction to apply paint to a small section, and then turn it to apply it to the next area). Rinse sponge and let paint dry two to three hours.

4. Repeat step 3 using Copper glaze, making sure it doesn't copy the pattern formed by the Bronze.

5. Repeat process with Gold glaze and let dry overnight.
