Figure E
Host Renai Ellison shows how to make faux milk-glass panels for kitchen cabinets (see photo at right).

Materials:

milk glass
latex paint
sponge brush
tape measure
paper cutter or straight edge and craft knife
collage medium (Crafter's Pick brand was used on show.)
copper tape
acrylic paint (Plaid brand, copper color was used on show.)

Steps:

  1. Photocopy milk glass or opaque stained glass.

  2. Prime cabinets with a coat of latex paint and let dry.

  3. Use a sponge brush to paint cabinets, then let dry.

  4. Measure the inset of the cabinet (figure A) to determine the size of the photocopy.

  5. Cut the design out with a paper cutter or straight edge and craft knife (figure B). You might want to cut paper into three pieces to give it an "inset pane" look once it is applied.

  6. Apply collage medium to inset (figure C) and place paper immediately, before adhesive dries.

  7. Once dry, add copper tape to the edges where the paper pieces meet to give the inset a "pane" look (figure D).

  8. If desired, add copper-colored acrylic paint to the edges of the inset to "antique" the cabinet (figure E).
