Have you ever had a plugged sink full of caustic drain cleaners? Plunging the sink could result in splashing burning chemicals all over the counter, and worse yet, all over yourself! The solution to this mess: A siphon.
First, never siphon anything with your mouth. You can create a siphon to drain the sink by just using a short length of hose and the kitchen faucet.
- Using safety gloves and safety glasses, place one end of the hose in the sink as far down as possible, where it meets the drain.
- Place the other end of the hose under the faucet spout and slowly fill it with water.
- Place your thumb over the filled hose end.
- Keeping a tight seal, direct the hose into a large bucket - and here's the trick - the bucket has to be lower than the sink to create the siphon.
Now, you can get back to the original problem - the clogged sink.
