Professional organizer Bernard Gaddis spring-cleans and organizes a makeup drawer. He tops it off with a simple vanity that anyone can make.
Vanity
Materials:
6 milk crates small table 1 flat piece of wood muslin cloth
Steps:
Figure A
Stack three crates to each side and top with a piece of wood that has been cut at a home-supply store or lumber store (figure A).
The top crate should hold things that are used often such as a hair dryer, combs, brushes and styling products. The most important items in your routine should be near the top, with the bottom crates used as storage.
Use the table in the middle for holding towels and other products that need to be accessed easily.
Figure C
Top the vanity with muslin. Keep brushes, cotton balls and other necessary items on top in decorative jars and tins. Add accents such as a bamboo place mat and fresh flowers (figure B).
Figure B
Tips
An interesting soap dish such as this (figure C) is a unique way to organize items such as tweezers, clippers, polish, etc.
The key to good bathroom organization is to throw away anything that is not used or wanted. Many times discarded makeup containers continue to hang around in drawers. Toss them out!
