Roofer Walter Lacey raises unforgettable roofs. His shingle-thatch roofs reach deep into the imagination--all the way back to childhood fairy tales. For this project, he warps 16-inch cedar shingles by steaming and shaping them in special devices he has created to bend wood.
He attaches bent shingles to pine lattice work on top of the house. The shingles ebb and flow, moving like waves over the roof. The completed rooftop (see above left photo) is fit for a king, but offers the charm of Hansel and Gretal-like cottage.
