Kids will have a great time communicating through an easy-to-make speaking tube.
Material:

drill driver
hole saw (7/8" or 1")
7 to 8 feet of 3/4" copper plumbing pipe
two copper reducer pieces
two 90-degree angle elbows
copper pipe hangers
screws for pipe hangers

Steps:

1. Find the best location for the speaking tube along a wall stud. Drill a hole in the ceiling of the first floor directly over that location.

2. Run the copper plumbing pipe through the hole. Attach the pipe to the stud securely with pipe hangers and screws.

3. Tap a 90-degree angle elbow onto each end of the copper pipe.

3. Tap a reducer piece (mouth piece) on each 90-degree angle elbow.
