Sharon and Barry Briskman needed a place to house Barry's collection of classic Packards, MGs and other collectible cars (figure A). Sharon didn't want the garage to devour her garden, so they developed a compromise and went with a design that called for the garage to be built around the garden.

The solution called for a separate, L-shaped garage set well behind the house (figure B). Sharon was able to keep her garden, and they also installed a beautifully landscaped pond to create a visual buffer.

The garage allows Barry easy access to his collection, and the patio in the courtyard makes a great place for entertaining (figure C). The garage offers comfortable settings for people as well as Packards. Barry set up an informal living room in the back corner of the garage and filled it with more toys, including a working vintage jukebox, signs, books, toy cars, wheels and other interesting automotive artifacts (figure D).
