Steve Watson and his crew take care of a basement walkout that's badly in need of some help. Below is a summary of steps, as well as a list of tools and materials used, as seen in this Don't Sweat It project.

4x4x8 pressure treated lumber (4)
concrete mix (6 bags)
circular saw
hammer
bucket
safety glasses

Steps:

Demolition

  • Remove existing bricks.

  • Dig out a 4'x4' hole that's 8 inches deep (figure A).

Concrete and Drain

  • Frame out the perimeter with pressure treated 4x4's. Level.

  • Plug the drain.

  • Mix concrete.

  • Pour concrete into the frame (figure B) and level using a 2x4 (figure C).

  • Allow drying time per the concrete manufacturer's instructions..

  • Install drain cover.
