Olson takes on the challenge of transforming the Leff's home. Here's how he does it:
- Replaces the existing concrete pathway with a wider cobblestone walkway and a planting bed.
- Boosts the front porch with new railing and balusters and dark metal fixtures.
- Paints the fence in white and the porch floor in blue.
- Adds an arbor at the front of the new pathway, clearly designating a place for visitors to enter.
- Installs a new driveway gate separates the front from the backyard.
- Adds plants in varying shapes, colors and textures.
- Adorns the seating area with a bench and container pots whose plantings match the varying theme in the front yard.
The Virtual Makeover
Olson and Leff enlist the help of a software program to take this new look one step further with a the virtual makeover that Leff might utilize in the future. Here's what they envision:
- Replacing the wood siding with cedar shingles.
- Installing craftsman style brackets and rafter tails to the roofline, heightening the cottage look.
- Adding pergolas and casement windows for another touch of arts-and-craft style.
- Surrounding the grass path and bench with flowering plants and shrubs and shade trees.
- Paving the driveway with cobblestone and installing slate shingles.
