Quiet House

Dream Builders : Episode DRB-907 -- More Projects »
Architect Berry Landford's Albuquerque home is a retreat within the city. Sitting in the garden on the north side of this house, you'd never know that thousands of cars whiz by the south side every day. Thanks to Langford's layers of sound dampening strategies this lot has been filled for the first time in 50 years.

The problem with building a virtually soundproof house, however, is that it can tend to feel like you're living in a bunker. The south-facing curved walls and earthen berms that work hard to make the house more peaceful also tend to block a lot of light. Take a tour of this home to understand how Langford solved these sound and lighting challenges to create a piece of desert solitude.
