Cannonball House

This house in Lewes, Delaware, is a reminder of the town's brush with the British during the War of 1812. Built in 1797, this shingle-covered home gets its name from a stray cannonball that struck the house during an American/British skirmish during the War of 1812. The cannonball is still visible in the foundation on the front side of the home. The interior hasn't changed much in the past 200 years and still contains floorboards taken from dismantled 18th century ships. Today, the Cannonball House is a maritime museum and open to the public.
