Figure D
Host Kathi Cardinalli explains how to construct a unique glass-top memento table.

Materials:

scrap plywood cut to create a shallow open-top box
drill
wood screws
wood glue
wooden picture frame sheet of 1/4" glass cut to fit inside frame (must use thicker glass, not regular framing glass, so that it's strong enough to hold objects)
screw-on legs and metal attachment plates
screwdriver
heavy-duty hook-and-loop tape
foam core cut to fit inside bottom of box
fabric to cover foam core
wood filler or putty
sandpaper
paint
paintbrush

Steps:

  1. Glue and screw the box together.

  2. Attach metal plates on the bottom and screw in the legs.

  3. Attach hook-and-loop tape to the outside edge of the box (figure A) and to the edge of the frame (figure B).

  4. Cover foam core with fabric and place in the bottom of the box (figure C) to create a decorative background.

  5. Place frame and glass on top of the box (figure D).

  6. Fill all screw holes and seams with wood filler or putty, sand and paint.
