Home repair expert Henry Harrison shows how to replace a keyboard tray in a computer armoire that has no locking detent. On his elbow grease scale of one to four, Harrison gives this job a one.

Tools:

Phillips-head screwdriver
pencil
new track assembly

Steps:

1. Remove the keyboard and mouse, then use the pencil to mark where the old track is attached.

2. Loosen the screws holding the track, then slide the entire tray assembly out (figure B).

3. Tracks are available at woodworking supply stores as well as home improvement centers. Measure the old tracks first and buy new ones of the same length.

4. Hold one of the rails of the new tracks against the old one, and mark the position for the adjustable bracket (figure C). Repeat at other end of track.

5. Attach support arm to bracket with screw. Remove old brackets, then line up new brackets with marks made earlier and attach.

6. Attach the support beams to the tray with screws.

7. Mount tray back into cabinet with mounting screws.
