A new paint treatment can make a virtually unseen cabinet stand out.

Steps:

  1. Paint cabinet in desired color. Use a palm sander to distress the paint (figure A).
  2. When finished sanding, protect with a water-based polyurethane.
  3. Cover the vinyl countertop with 1" x 4" pieces of pine cut to fit over the backsplash and counter (figure B). Install boards using paneling adhesive and attach with screws from underneath.
  4. Trim edges with another board to finish it off (figure C).
  5. Add new hardware for a finishing touch.

Other laundry room organizers:

  • A rolling laundry sorter with hanging rod.
  • Retractable clotheslines.
  • Wicker drawer units tucked into a small space.
  • Put a pantry where paint was once stored.
