Cushions on the top of the built-in toy box allow it to be used as a bench.
A combination toy box and bench seat is built into an used niche.

Materials:

table saw
pencil
tape measure
safety glasses
nail gun
carpenter’s square
2x4 planks
plywood sheets
paint
trim
molding
nails

1. Measure your space using a tape measure.
2. Put on protective eyewear.
3. Using a table saw, trim the 2x4s to the correct length for the frame of your toy box.
4. Build the front of your toy box by creating a frame placing the studs 24 inches apart (figure A).
5. Nail the frame to the wall.

6. Nail plywood sheets to the front of the frame (figure B).
7. Paint the toy box to match the design of the room.
8. Fix molding around the toy box to connect the design to the rest of the room. Also, the trim on the top will create a lip for cushions to rest on.
9. Place covers over the toy box.
10. Set cushion covers on top of the toy box and enjoy your new architectural detail.
