Crafter Lindley Boegehold shares a homemade method of adding a mosaic to nearly any surface in your home.
Materials:
wooden base, precut at hardware store
rail fittings
screws
pencile
plates, cups
tile, precut and sorted
tile glue
tile grout
rubber gloves
notched spreader
soft cloth
S-shaped hooks
Steps:
- Sand base. Mark the position of the rail fittings and screw holes at either end.
- Design pattern with a pencil, using round objects of different sizes such as plates and cups to trace.
- Select tile pieces and glue them to the wood following the pattern. Use any desired colors.
- Mix the tile grout in a bowl.
- Using rubber gloves and a notched spreader, spread tile grout over the entire surface of the piece. Let dry one hour.
- Polish the mosaic with a soft cloth, removing any grout that may have dried on the surface of the tiles.
- Using gloves, spread grout on the edges of the wood, then leave to dry.
- Attach the rail to the predetermined spaces and hang the S-shaped hooks for mugs.
