Maintain Air Conditioner

Figure A--The most important thing you can do to help your a/c run efficiently is to keep it clean. Usually the filter is accessed by opening the front cover. Some filters are reusable and can be cleaned with soap and water and put back in use. Disposable filters are also available.

Figure B--It's also important to clean the coils and interior of an air-conditioning unit. This requires unplugging the unit and removing the case. Make sure the coils in the front are clean, and use a vacuum cleaner to clean out other areas.

Figure C--If the unit requires cleaning with soap and water, protect delicate electronic components with plastic and be very careful not to get them wet. Also avoid getting the fan motor wet. Use a brush and soapy water if necessary to clean the rear coils.
