Vertical blinds can add privacy and are fairly easy to install.
Problem: You want to install a window treatment on your large picture window, but you don't like the look of curtains or horizontal blinds.

Solution: You can install vertical blinds to add privacy and give a new look to your windows.

You can mount vertical blinds on the wall or within the window casement. If you install the blinds on the wall, you will be able to move them completely out of the way of the window so that they don't obstruct the view.

Vertical blinds are available in a variety of styles and colors. They are most commonly made of fabric, aluminum, or PVC plastic.

Vertical blinds must be custom made to fit your windows.

Materials list:

measuring tape
drill, with assorted drill bits and a Phillips driver bit
Phillips-head screwdriver
safety glasses

  1. Remove any existing window treatments, valances and mounting hardware.
  2. Measure and mark a point on the wall at a height that will allow the blinds to hang 1/2" off the floor.
  3. Screw "L" brackets to the wall every 30" at the appropriate height.
  4. Snap the vertical blind track onto the brackets.
  5. Snap the slats onto the carriers on the track, and let them hang freely.

The blinds are operated by two cords. One cord opens and closes the blinds, and the other rotates the slats.
