Dunbar House

This is the home that Paul Laurence Dunbar, an African-American poet who was popular at the turn of the 20th century, purchased for himself and his mother with his royalties. He attributed his success to her lesson about not being afraid to follow a dream.

It is a mix between Italianate and Queen Anne styles and features both fine Victorian furnishings (figure A) and simple furniture that belonged to his mother, who was a slave. The centerpiece of the room was her Bible (figure B).
