Weather stripping is a household necessity that is often overlooked. It’s used to seal gaps or spaces around doors and windows. Weather stripping comes in all shapes and sizes and each type has a specific use. But whether your weather stripping is made of felt, foam, vinyl, metal or wood, it all serves the same purpose: to prevent the air outside from coming in, and the air inside air from seeping out.
Install soft foam, felt or vinyl weather stripping for window and doorstops. Use rigid weather stripping on the bottom of doors and window sashes.
For door sweeps, measure, cut and either tape or screw into the bottom of doors. Make sure the door can open and shut, and the sweep is close enough to the ground to keep air out. So to strip it all down to the bare facts, weather stripping is one of the most important household items to help keep your home energy efficient.
