It is one of the oldest houses in Charleston, a home that harkens back to the days of Colonial Charleston when the growing city was alive with the spirit of industry. Thomas Elfe was a craftsman who came to Charleston from England at a time when the town was growing and wealth was creating jobs for quality homebuilders and artisans. Evidence of Elfe’s fine craftsmanship is evident in this 1760s Georgian single house. His woodworking skills later made Elfe a legend not just in Charleston, but throughout the American colonies.
