Home repair expert Henry Harrison helps a homeowner reattach the siding on his house that has worked loose at a corner. On his elbow grease scale of one to four, Harrison gives this fix a one.

Steps:

1. Remove the nails holding the corner piece in place using the cat’s paw (figure A). Slide a wedge of wood between the pry bar and the siding to avoid damaging the siding.

2. Loosen and move any phone or cable lines that may be in the way.

3. Now use the zip tool to loosen the boards adjacent to the corner cap. Slide the zip tool up under the lip and pull the siding out with your fingers and you work the tool into the gap (figure B). Pull the tool down and toward the end, loosening the siding from the backing.

4. Detach each board all the way down (figure C).

5. Nail corner piece in place using roofing nails or long common nails if you need more bite (figure D).

6. Snap siding back together with the zip tool. Hook the tool on lip and pull the lip down. Then take your other hand and following the tool, press in and pop the siding back together. Put a little dish soap on the tool to help it slide.

7. Reattach phone and cable lines.
