Avid skiers Alex and Claudine Sellers wanted as much powder as possible and they've got all they can handle right outside their door in British Columbia, Canada. While most ski chalets are log or frame homes, the Sellers wanted something a bit different. Their copper-covered home looks somewhat like a boat and features many nautical details (figure A).

Overlapping shingles resemble fish scales, while the cable railings look like they came right off the deck of a ship (figure B). Snow falls off the bowed roof, which is also ideal for standing up to the strong winds off the Pacific Ocean. The Sellers carried the maritime theme even further by naming their home Argo, after the ship sailed by Greek hero Jason.

Inside, the elegant interior features rich woods such as fir and cedar (figure C). The decor is meant to provide a link to the home's environment and includes items made by local craftspeople like a Japanese stone garden under glass and a fireplace flue covered in glass panels meant to resemble a totem pole and represent various British Columbia cultures (figure D).
