Home repair expert Henry Harrison shows a guest how to stabilize an elevated play set by installing some angle brackets at the support posts. On his elbow grease scale of one to four, Harrison gives this project a two.

Steps:

1. Cut supports from 2x4s by making 45-degree angle cuts on each end (figure A).

2. Pre-drill holes in the ends of the brackets for your lag screws and washers. Use a paddle bit to cut pockets for the lag screws (figure B).

3. After drilling the pockets, drill all the way through the lumber to clear the way for the lag screws (figure C).

4. Clamp the first bracket to the side of the play set, line it up so the end is flush with the support post, and pre-drill through the holes in the bracket and into the support post and structure (figure D).

5. Switch to a nut driver and power home the lag screws (figure E). Tighten the lag screw into final position using a ratchet.

6. Continue until all posts are reinforced.
