Wood shims can bring some stability to a wobbly appliance, bookshelf or door. Use one shim, or place multiple shims back-to-back. Just take the tapered edges and slide the shims together to fill the gap (
figure A). To steady a bookshelf, just slide a shim under the edge to correct the imbalance. Score along the exposed part of the shim and snap it away (
figure B).
Shims are available at your local hardware store or home center in bundles or packs. They are usually about 6-inches long, 2-inches wide and tapered up to a half inch thick. With a supply of shims in your toolbox you can really even things out.
