Some people consider their home a sanctuary. Homeowner John General turned a former sanctuary into his home. The exterior of the former Church of All Saints in Easton, Md., is so genuine that occasionally people knock at the door and inquire about church services.

While the church was deconsecrated and made available for secular use, General has retained certain Gothic revival elements, restored the Bavarian stained-glass windows and kept one of the pews. The church resembles an upside-down boat, so General relied on boat builders to work on the complex curving wood trim. The former vestry is now a kitchen, and the altar was turned into a sitting area.
