Glue guns are excellent for craft projects, but are also handy when it comes to making repairs around the house. Join a couple of pieces of wood by running a bead of hot glue along the edges. The glue will set in about five seconds. Glue guns should not be used for permanent repairs, but rather to hold pieces together long enough to install a screw or other permanent fastener.

When buying glue sticks to load the gun, check the package to make sure you're buying the right stick for the materials you're working with, whether it's metal, glass, plastic or wood. Also, when working with a glue gun, make sure you have a heat-resistant surface to rest it on.
