Most people use the stairs to get from one floor to another in most homes, but Anne and Michael Gambone like to use a fire pole. The pole is the first thing visitors ask about when they step foot into the Gambone's Lynchburg, Va., home. The couple has spent several years converting what used to be Fire Station #4 into a unique residence. Besides the fire pole, the 1905 building also houses antique fire equipment on loan from the city. The master bedroom, located in what used to be the firemen's quarters, still has eight closets. Historian Bill young provided some information, including why the station was built in its Rivermont location.
