It takes a unique individual make a home out of an old jail, and Wyman Meinzer is as unique as they come. He and his wife Sylinda have made their home out of a sandstone jail that has two-feet thick stone walls and the bars still on the windows. They actually sleep in the former men's cell.

Wyman, a professional nature photographer, did encounter some challenges in creating a cozy atmosphere inside a 19th century jail. But a few decorative touches changed the place from formidable to friendly, and 20 years of hard work paid off and the old jail is now an inviting family home. The building’s history is also told through the original sheriff’s logbooks, which the couple read frequently.
