A nail stopper is designed to protect pipes and electrical wires that run through studs from being punctured by nails when you're adding or repairing a wall (figure A). Position the stopper or the plate on the edge of the stud, directly over the pipe or wire, then gently drive the teeth into the stud (figure B). Start at the top then a little bit at the bottom. Secure the nail stopper by driving in a small-headed nail through the holes at each end of the stopper.
