Is it possible to give a fraternity house curb appeal? Designer Wendle Schoniger mixes large projects with small projects to create a new effect for the Pi Kappa Alpha house at the University of California, Berkeley.
So how do you turn the home of 25 college guys into a house that is appealing from the curb? Schoniger has the answer. Here's how she, the fraternity and crew does it:
- Removes the chain fence and installs new grass.
- Slims down cement columns begins.
- Removes a large juniper tree and furniture from the front yard, plus takes down Christmas lights and removes the bike from the balcony.
- Paints the trim cream and window moldings blue.
- Plants low-maintenance, decorative flax.
- Installs a mahogany door in the front.
- Removes middle section of the balcony and installs decorative railing.
- Adds a new gutter to give the balcony a cleaner look.
- Stuccoes the porch and adds concrete caps that are asthetically pleasing and comfortable to sit on.
- Installs new copper-on-redwood Greek letters above the porch.
- Installs two urns, chaises, an umbrella and a table on the porch.
