Steps:

1. Begin by carefully and thoroughly reading the directions. Disconnect the disposal's power cord, then loosen the band clamp and remove the hose that runs to the dishwasher (figure B).

2. Next disconnect the drain line connecting the disposal to the adjacent sink (figure C).

3. Use the screwdriver to loosen the three screws holding the mounting flange to the disposal (figure D). Do not remove them. Just loosen them enough to turn the metal collar and release the disposal from the sink.

4. Remove the metal ring that holds the flange together and the assembly should just come right off the sink.

5. Use the putty knife to clean all old plumber's putty from the sink, otherwise the new unit will not seal correctly and leak.

6. If the new disposal does not have wiring, just remove the wiring and power cord from the old unit and use them. Make sure all wiring connections match.

7. If you have a dishwasher, make sure to punch out the plastic plug for the washer connection inside the new unit (figure E).

8. Place a slipnut and nut on the drainpipe and attach to the disposal. Attach the nut and slipnut from the old disposal to the other end.

9. Roll out a bead of plumbers putty and put it around the drain opening in the sink (figure F), overlapping the ends. Place the flange on top of the putty.

10. Assemble the mounting bracket, tighten the three screws, then mount the garbage disposal.

11. Reattach the hose to the dishwasher if necessary, attach the drain pipe and tighten the nut and give the nut on the disposal end of the pipe another twist.

12. Remove excess plumbers putty from around the flange in the sink, plug in the new disposal and try it out.
