Pittock Mansion
The home of Georgiana and Henry Pittock was constructed in 1914 in the hills overlooking Portland. They had both traveled as pioneers with their families to settle in the Pacific Northwest. Henry's successes were numerous and varied. Among other titles, he is well known for ownership and publishing of The Oregonian. Georgiana participated in many charitable causes and it is said that her passion for roses led to today's annual Rose Festival. The mansion's design is a blend of Turkish, English and French styles. Modern conveniences included indirect lighting, intercoms and a central vacuuming system. Although the couple lived in the mansion a relatively short number of years, members of the Pittock family called it home until 1958. The city of Portland bought the estate in 1964.
