Glenn Young searched for the perfect hill to build his 3,000-foot, three-bedroom, luxurious dome underground home. He began the foundation for his home in the spring of 2000 by digging five tons of dirt to level the hill (figure A). He then ballooned up each plastic dome form (figure B). Each dome form was reinforced with rebar then sprayed with concrete inside the interior of each dome.

Next, he bulldozed the five tons of dirt back over the domes to restore the hill and completed a series of four interconnected domes (figure C). The main entrance to the home is through a 100-foot tunnel (figure D). The dome rooms each have a 12-foot high ceiling with beautiful murals that create a wide-open feeling. Each room has a different theme mural and every room features a sky-like view so as to have the sensation of being outdoors.

The light at the end of the tunnel leads to an expansive living room and kitchen area adorned with murals of the Pacific Islands. Ceiling fans circulate the air and polished granite floors augment the whimsical wall murals. The home is filled with details, including pure crystal spheres to enhance the mystical atmosphere. The tiger-skin patterned granite countertops in the kitchen stretch for more than 12 feet (figure E), while cherry wood cabinets (figure F) lend a sense of warmth.

Young's son’s room incorporates an Alcapoco / Rivera theme mural (figure I). The crowning touch is the master bedroom also known as the Mayan room. A sunset theme (figure J) mural renders a relaxing and calming effect and the Mayan pyramid (figure K) mural reaches to the stars.

The master bathroom includes a spacious Jacuzzi tub, golden onyx walls and floors, carved wooden columns and a waterfall mural (figure L).

What home would be complete without the tranquility of a lazy afternoon of fishing? Outside his front door "tunnel," Young created a fishing pond (figure M).
